It’s not often spoken about, but mothers are birthed too. No one tells us just how emotionally and spiritually difficult and the process of shedding your former skin can be. The more we share, the more we can shine a light on what it really means to become a mother.

The art of motherhood is an ongoing work in progress. And when it comes to my own story, I’m always ready to continue the conversation. Reach out here and say hello.

“Through our interviews with mothers all around the world, there’s a common thread that runs through all of the words and sentiments shared—it’s that in the heart of each mother is the desire to make it better for the next mother on her motherhood journey. The more we share our stories, our experiences, and what we have learned along the way, the more connected we become. Thank you to all the mothers that have shared your story with us so far. Featuring words by @briellebrown.”

That it will take time—years to fully become the person you will end up becoming. That after giving birth, you will open your eyes to a blank slate and you will have to relearn how to exist as a mother—to become a stronger, more compassionate, more patient, more fierce version of yourself. A fragment of time. A small part of the whole. To all the mamas out there who are in the process of shedding their former skin, wondering if they will once again recognize their reflection, those who are rediscovering, redefining and surprising themselves, working towards understanding fully the word and the role that is MOTHER—happy day of love and celebration to you. We’re all here together ❤️

The shadow puppet days. The wiping tears, managing tantrums, praying you can just get through it, if you only knew what happened before and after we took that photo days. Through it all, I just keep reminding myself that one day they’ll look back at this time in their lives and remember the good. On a bright windy afternoon, they pretended they could fly and played outside with their mommy and the shadows on the wall. 🕊🦅

These two 🤎 filling up all the little spaces in my heart, holding the key to my sanity in their tiny little hands—and they know it. Hope you’re hanging in there. ☕️☕️☕️ Thank you @trinacaryphotography, for capturing my babes and me once again.

Thoughts on motherhood and artistry on this International Women’s Day❣️ I feel more grounded and focused now as a mother, than I ever did before. You might think that being a parent would set an artist back in some ways. The lack of time to create is definitely a hazard of the job, but there’s a strange symbiotic relationship between being an artist and a parent. Read the full caption here.

I posted the below quote on my stories yesterday but I feel like it deserves a real post here. It’s not often spoken about but mamas are birthed too. Not an easy process but ultimately one that’s worth the work.❣️ "The most difficult part of birth is the first year afterwards. It is the year of travail – when the soul of a woman must birth the mother inside her. The emotional labour pains of becoming a mother are far greater than the physical pangs of birth; these are the growing surges of your heart as it pushes out selfishness and fear and makes room for sacrifice and love. It is a private and silent birth of the soul, but it is no less holy than the event of childbirth, perhaps it is even more sacred." - Joy Kusek 🕊 📸 @trinacaryphotography

A very rare moment of calmness. 🤫 We’ve been in this house for 6 months now. It was a little crazy moving in the middle of everything going on, but it’s definitely turned into our home—especially when I catch them like this. 🥂 to all the mamas out there who have given everything they’ve got this year. Hope you all get some peace and quiet over these next few weeks! ✨
